Methodology
Formula, assumptions and limitations.
Goods value = quoted unit price × quantity.
Estimated duty = (goods value + freight + insurance) × duty rate. This is a simplified assumption and may not match the customs valuation method applicable to a real transaction.
Total landed cost = goods value + freight + insurance + estimated duty + inspection + tooling + other direct costs.
Landed cost per unit = total landed cost ÷ quantity.
What is excluded by default
The calculator does not automatically include VAT, brokerage, storage, financing, inventory carrying cost, rework, warranty, quality failures, returns, currency hedging or jurisdiction-specific taxes. Add relevant direct items manually and obtain specialist advice where required.
Worked example
At a unit price of 10 for 1,000 units, the goods value is 10,000. Freight and insurance are added before the simplified duty calculation. Inspection and other direct costs are then added to obtain the total and per-unit landed cost.
